Clark Reder Engineering conducted a thorough analysis and review of the roof structure for the 2024 US Open Surfing event. This temporary structure, measuring 35 feet wide, 34 feet deep, and 28 feet tall, was carefully designed to support LED walls, audio equipment, and a variety of lighting elements, ensuring both safety and functionality. Our team meticulously reviewed the truss system, evaluating its ability to withstand client - specified gravity loads and code - mandate d lateral forces. Additionally, we conducted a detailed assessment of the rigging elements to confirm their capacity to securely support the dynamic loads associated with the audiovisual and lighting installations. Given the beachside location of the struc ture, special considerations were made for environmental factors and site conditions. External ballast blocks were strategically buried in the sand to resist lateral sliding forces, enhancing the stability of the overall structure. Through detailed enginee ring analysis and close attention to regulatory requirements, Clark Reder Engineering ensured the structure was not only safe and code - compliant but also fully met the client ’ s performance needs. This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering innova tive and reliable structural solutions for challenging environments.
