Clark Reder Engineering (CRE) conducted a structural analysis of a steel - framed climbing wall designed to be installed on a barge docked at Navy Pier. The climbing wall spans 54 feet in length, 43 feet in height, and 22 feet in width, providing a substantial recreational structure. CRE ’ s review evaluated the structure for strength and stability under various load conditions, including gravity loads (self - weight and live loads) and lateral loads from wind forces. Wind analysis was conducted in accor dance with ASCE 7 - 1 6, as well as wind speeds corresponding to the speed of the barge when being towed to Navy Pier. The review confirmed the climbing wall complies with all relevant codes and stability criteria. CRE ’ s analysis ensures the climbing wall is a robust and secure addition to this unique installation environment.
